The prosecution’s last hope – a secret trial (Algirdas’ Paleckis’ open letter from prison No. 5)

These days I’ve received a considerable amount of libel on behalf of the prosecution. Hitherto I have never knew a name, such as N. Filipčenko who’s been convicted of spying for Russia. However, it “appears” that I’m somehow “connected” to him. The claim is utterly fake. I truly don’t envy the prosecutor Vilma Vidugienė, who will have to “prove” that what is black.

Its not without good reason that the prosecution announces beforehand, that the should be held in secret. Because only in a secret trial can all the ends be hidden. That’s precisely why the story about my “connections” to N. Filipčenko was thought up. Supposedly, because his case is being investigated secretly as a state secret, so now, having “copy-pasted” the same to my case – the prosecution expects that my case will also be secret. But to think so is naïve. The truth will nevertheless come to the surface.

Lies follow yet more lies. Perhaps some people have already forgotten, but not so long ago the prosecution announced, that my case has “uncovered an entire spy network”. Where’s this “network” now, who have been identified as its members? During these 9 months, having failed to discover any “spies” among my acquaintances, the prosecution consequently remembered this old case of N. Filipčenka from 2015.

The prosecutor claimed several times, that during the house search “Paleckis was destroying documents”. But just wait a moment, mrs. (Vidugienė) – didn’t you know, that during such a search the suspect isn’t able to make a single move, because there are several police officers next to him? I appealed for libel to the officer who performed the search. “It is false, what she’s speaking”, – he answered. And he offered to read out the protocol of the search. It doesn’t mention any violations on my part.

I was arrested in secret, out of the public eye. Now they expect to make my trial secret too. This won’t succeed. The politicization of this case is obvious even to Brussels now.
